STEP 3: DEVELOP A TEAM LEADER PROGRAM

The team leader program has been very successful in the Deschutes County area. Team leaders are community members who have fire (structural or wildland) or insurance knowledge, and are responsible for leading FireFree efforts and volunteers in their area.

The main goal of this step is to identify at-risk neighborhoods in your community. The team leaders “adopt” these neighborhoods and help create a customized FireFree Clean-Up for them. The team leaders serve as advisors to their targeted neighborhood, leading FireFree efforts, guiding volunteers, and helping to ensure the area participates in the community Clean-Ups.

The planning committee holds regular meetings where team leaders share ideas and update each other on happenings in their neighborhoods. What works in one neighborhood can easily work in another! At the end of the program year, each team leader should provide an evaluation of their adopted neighborhood.
