STEP 7: MEDIA AND ADVERTISING
Create a Media Plan
The FireFree program includes the following media options:
•Print Advertising
•Radio Advertising
•Television Advertising
•Outdoor Advertising
Depending on the size of your community, the media dollars you have to work with and the media partnerships you are able to form, your program can place a media schedule that includes all the available advertising media or, you may have to develop a media plan that includes only two or three of the media.
Forming advertising partnerships
In Deschutes County, the local newspapers, radio stations, TV stations and outdoor companies all agreed to match media dollars. In other words, for each ad bought they placed another at no charge. This commitment helped leverage the media dollars available. You should expect 100% participation from all media.
Hopefully, your local fire agency has a budget for advertising. If they don’t, you may have to ask local businesses for dollars to support your media plan. You may have to ask local media for a 100% donation, but remember to offer as much recognition as you can for their donation.
